Rolling Shutters provide excellent security and light blockage. They can also filter a little light for a deep shade, allowing fresh air indoors while maintaining superb privacy, security, and insulation. When rolled up, a full view is revealed. Rolling Shutters are a staple throughout Europe and are historically constructed from wood. They generally roll up on the outside of a house and function with interior cranks, pull straps, or motor controls. Rolling Shutters are produced in the following materials:
PVC
The least expensive and type of rolling shutter. PVC Rolling Shutters are extruded from poly vinyl chloride and do a fine job of closing out the sun, but can become warped and discolored through strong sun exposure, although the best PVC shutters have a UV barrier that is somewhat effective. They are not recommended as a security or high wind barrier.
Aluminum
Rolling shutters made from aluminum are strong and durable. Some designs are meant to allow visibility when the product is down (as in store fronts). They are significant wind and security barriers, although hollow aluminum however is not very good at insulation.
Foam Filled Aluminum
These are best of this type of product. They can be hurricane-rated and provide excellent insulation. When rolled down, these rolling shutters provide a virtual blackout and are also very good as a security covering. They are very long lasting and come in a variety of styles, sizes and colors.
